FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 4, 2008

Be Ready, Save the Date: Be a Life Saver on November 8!
Residents Invited to Participate in Alexandria/Arlington Public Health Emergency Exercise

Be a lifesaver! Help prepare yourself, your family, your City, and your community for an emergency by participating in the Be Ready Alexandria/Arlington Medication Dispensing Exercise, a public health emergency exercise, on Saturday, November 8.

By volunteering to participate, you can help the City of Alexandria and Arlington County test their ability to deliver medications to residents during a public health emergency. Volunteering takes about 30 minutes. Just walk into one of five exercise sites between 9 a.m. and noon on November 8 to pick up simulated medications for yourself, your family, and any neighbors you would assist in the event of a real emergency.

City of Alexandria sites:
• Northern Virginia Community College, 3001 N. Beauregard St. (Tyler Building)
• Charles Barrett Elementary School, 1115 Martha Custis Dr.
• Cora Kelly Recreation Center, 25 W. Reed Ave.

Arlington County sites:
• Aurora Hills Senior Center, 735 18th St. South
• Fairlington Community Center, 3308 South Stafford St.

This exercise is part of an ongoing commitment to protect the health and safety of residents in both jurisdictions. In an actual emergency, Medication Dispensing Centers would quickly gear up to provide medicines or vaccines to the public. This exercise lets the City and Arlington County evaluate the medication delivery model and identify strategies for improvement.
