Alexandria Citizen Corps Council Urges City Residents
To “Be Ready, Alexandria!”

In recognition of National Preparedness Month, the City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Citizen Corps Council will provide emergency preparedness information at three community events in September to help residents “Be Ready, Alexandria!” The events and locations are as follows:

• Olde Towne Dogge Walke, September 14, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 529 Oronoco Street
• Cora Kelly Community Day, September 27, noon to 5 p.m., 25 W. Reed Avenue
• World Rabies Day  Fun Day, September 28, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ben Brenman Park

Volunteer groups and non-profit organizations will provide information, hands-on displays, and demonstrations on how residents can prepare for and respond to a variety of emergencies and disasters.    

National Preparedness Month is a nationwide effort to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses, and schools. These simple steps include getting an emergency supply kit, making a family emergency plan, becoming informed about different threats and their appropriate responses, and getting involved in preparing your communities.

The Alexandria Citizen Corps Council, established under the City Code in 2005, advises and supports the Alexandria City Council to help Alexandria minimize the impact of disaster through prevention, preparation, and effective response measures.
