Metro Bus Accident imageOn Thursday, August 21 at approximately 6:54 p.m., Alexandria Fire and EMS units responded to a report of an auto accident involving a bus. Upon arrival, it was determined that a Metro bus had crashed into a ground floor apartment in the 5400 block of Duke Street. A search of the residence by firefighters revealed that no one was at home at the time of the crash.

Initial investigation indicated that the driver parked the bus and unloaded the passengers due to mechanical difficulties. The driver exited the bus and was attempting to repair the problem when the bus began to roll east bound on Duke Street. The bus traveled east bound in the west bound lanes before crashing into the ground floor apartment. There were no injuries.

The Fire Departments Technical Rescue Team performed an initial assessment of the structure. After consulting with Metro Officials team members performed relief cuts.
