At approximately 3:23 p.m on Wednesday, June 4, Alexandria Fire and EMS units responded to a report of a structure collapse at 201 South Washington St (The Lyceum). Heavy wind and rain from severe thunderstorms uprooted a large tree, causing it to fall on a covered walkway, which then collapsed under the weight of the tree.
Alexandria Fire Department’s Technical Rescue Team responded and stabilized the collapsed area .Search crews confirmed no one was trapped under the collapsed walkway. Damage was confined to the walkway and one vehicle. No structural damage was sustained by the Lyceum, and it was open for business during regular hours on Thursday.
