[Archived] Sewage Spill Affects Local Streams

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 4, 2008

Sewage Spill Affects Local Streams

Arlington County has reported a sewage spill resulting from an incident in the area of North Edison Street at 17th Street North. As a precautionary measure, Alexandria residents are advised to avoid water downstream of the spill - including Lubber Run and Four Mile Run, from where Lubber Run begins in Waycroft-Woodlawn Park, through Lubber Run Park to Four Mile Run from Glencarlyn Park to the Potomac River.

Until further notice, residents are advised not to fish in or have any contact with the waters, including wading or swimming. The advisory to avoid all contact is considered an extra precaution to allow the effect of the sewage spill to diminish by natural flushing of the streams.
