Alexandria Adult Day Services Center Receives Arts for the Aging Award

The Alexandria Adult Day Services Center has received the Arts for the Aging (AFTA) Senior Center Partner of Excellence Award. This award is given to the senior center that shows an outstanding partnership with AFTA to enhance the lives of seniors.

The Alexandria Adult Day Services Center, operated by the Department of Human Services Office of Aging and Adult Services, is a daytime program for seniors who need supervision due to memory loss or the need for medication management, or need a therapeutic program to maintain their highest level of independence. The program, located in the Lee Center, also provides support for caregivers who need time to maintain their own lives outside of being a caregiver.

The Day Services Center has been in partnership with AFTA for more than 15 years, and through this collaboration, has improved the quality of life for many older Alexandrians.

AFTA, celebrating its 20th anniversary, is an organization that partners professional artists with senior programs to promote healthy aging and enhance the lives of seniors through the arts.
