City Hosts Community Meeting on Citywide Wayfinding Signage System on Thursday, May 29

The City of Alexandria invites residents to a community meeting to provide input on the development and design of a comprehensive, citywide wayfinding signage system. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 29 at 7 p.m. at the George Washington Masonic Memorial, 101 Callahan Dr.

The wayfinding signage system is intended to clearly direct vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle traffic to their destinations and project a consistent image and overall identity for the City, reduce visual clutter, and promote walking, bicycling, and use of mass transit. The wayfinding signage will serve both residents and visitors and will provide clear connectivity between districts and destinations throughout Alexandria, with an initial focus on Old Town. 

 In Old Town, the wayfinding signage will help visitors quickly locate available parking lots so that they are encouraged to walk to Alexandria tourist destinations, including historic sites, restaurants, and retail stores. To help tourists and residents take advantage of Alexandria’s rich reserve of historic attractions, the wayfinding signage will integrate Alexandria Heritage Trail interpretive signage, support the developing regional interpretive trail system, and reinforce historical and regional trail themes by incorporating regional trails and historic sites into City interpretive signage.  For more information, visit www.alexandriava.gov/wayfinding or call Carrie Beach at 703.838.4666 ext. 325.
