Alexandria Fire and EMS Department firefighters have “adopted” a city park.

Firefighters from Fire Station 208 (175 N. Paxton St.) are participating in the Alexandria “Adopt-a-Park” program. The program, sponsored by the City’s Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities, allows volunteer groups to “adopt” a City park as part of a statewide litter control program. Groups are responsible for picking up litter and debris from the park and their efforts receive monthly evaluations.

Station 208 has adopted the James Marx All Veterans Park, located near the 200 block of N. Pickett St. located in the City’s West End. The park was chosen due to its proximity to the fire station and to Holmes Run.  Firefighters from the A-shift chose this opportunity as a unique approach to their overall commitment to community outreach. They will begin regular cleanup activities at the park at the end of April.
