Project Discovery Hosts “Mother Earth Knows Best” Fair

To celebrate Earth Day, Project Discovery students will host the “Mother Earth Knows Best Fair” at Chinquapin Park on Saturday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. At this event, a variety of environmental education activities will be offered, including a quiz show about Eco-Myth Busters and Factoids; distribution of maps that show shifting snow belts, glacier shrinkage, rising sea levels, and ocean currents; information about the benefits of buying local, versus factory-farmed foods; and a tour of the veggie-mobile (a car that runs on vegetable oil).

Project Discovery is a program within the Alexandria Department of Human Services, Office of Youth Services that assists low-income and/or first-generation students in entering and completing college. For more information, or to volunteer, please contact Lorien MacAuley at 703.838.0743, e-mail lorien.macauley@alevandriava.gov or visit www.pdalex.blogspot.com.
