Alexandria Police Sponsor “Spring Into Safety”

In an effort to protect vehicles from theft, the Alexandria Police Department will sponsor a free public safety event called “Spring into Safety” on April 19. The event at 2300 Eisenhower Avenue will take place from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

“Spring into Safety” will offer free Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etching and provide special embossed identification labels to make automobiles, trucks and motorcycles less valuable to thieves. These services will be provided by the Virginia State Police Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT) program. Etching or embossing vehicle identification numbers, or other identifying information, onto car windows or indelibly onto other surfaces makes them easier to trace and harder to sell when stolen. VIN etching can reduce car owner’s insurance rates too.

Members of the Alexandria Police Department including patrol officers, detectives and a representative of the Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office will be on hand to provide important crime-stopping assistance and information.

For further information call the Media Services Unit at 703.838.4636 or Sergeant Mark Bergin at 703.838.6360, ext 1638.
