Mentors Needed for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day!
Are you looking for a great way to make a difference in the life of an Alexandria youth? Mentors are needed for the City’s 15th Annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 24, 2008. Adults are needed to individually “adopt” an Alexandria student, or an office may team up to host a student for the day. The event was originally designed to bring “daughters” into the workplace to help them explore non-traditional careers, but in 2002, “sons” were added so they could also observe female leaders in a variety of roles in the workplace. The program is co-sponsored by the Alexandria Commission for Women and the Alexandria Office on Women.
Mentors will help Alexandria students explore a career field by teaching them about the work environment through on-site activities, providing a tour of the mentor’s office, arranging interviews with their colleagues, and bringing students along to meetings and work assignments. This event provides a truly unique opportunity for you to be a positive role model to youth and shape their future. If you are interested in mentoring a student or want further information, please contact Kim Hurley at the Office on Women at 703.746.5030, or visit www.alexandriava.gov/women/mentorapplication to fill out an online application. Applications must be submitted by April 18.
