City of Alexandria Selects Anthony Castrilli as Director of Communications

The City of Alexandria has announced the appointment of Anthony “Tony” Castrilli as the new Director of Communications for the City of Alexandria. The Director of Communications is responsible for developing, directing, and implementing strategic communication plans to promote the City and to keep its residents informed. His appointment is effective May 5.

Mr. Castrilli possesses 15 years of experience as a broadcast journalist and communications professional in Northern Virginia. Since 1999, he has served as the Executive Producer of News Coverage and Managing Editor at WUSA 9 News, the CBS affiliate in Washington, DC. At WUSA, he directed daily editorial content, managed newsgathering and production resources, and coordinated news coverage for broadcast and wusa9.com. He was a team leader that developed WUSA’s multi-platform media and information delivery system and helped create WUSA’s current strategic plan and news brand.
   
His communication leadership experience at WUSA includes directing news coverage and providing information to the community following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, during the Washington area sniper shootings, Hurricane Isabel, and most recently the shootings at Virginia Tech.

Mr. Castrilli also served as the Managing Editor for WRGZ-TV, the NBC affiliate in Buffalo NY, and as an Assignment Editor at NewsChannel 8 in Virginia. He received a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the State University of New York at Fredonia.   

Mr. Castrilli currently lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and three children.
