City of Alexandria Hosts 14th Annual Homeownership Fair

With the recent changes in real estate market conditions, opportunities for first-time homebuyers have expanded dramatically. To help potential buyers understand the home buying process and learn how to maximize their home purchase resources, the City of Alexandria is sponsoring its 14th Annual Homeownership Fair on Saturday, April 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at George Washington Middle School, 1005 Mt. Vernon Ave. This location offers ample parking and easy access to both Metrorail and Metrobus services.

The City’s Homeownership Fair will feature local real estate professionals, lenders, and housing counselors who can help buyers along the path to homeownership. These representatives can assist potential buyers in finding the right home, shopping for an affordable mortgage loan, and identifying and addressing possible pitfalls in the purchase process.

For persons interested in purchasing a home in Alexandria, the Homeownership Fair provides an invaluable opportunity to gather a range of information in one location at no cost. Last year’s fair attracted over 350 potential homebuyers who took advantage of the Fair’s information booths and homeownership seminars. Seminars are offered in both English and Spanish, and cover a range of topics critical to the first-time homebuyer.

Purchasers participating in the City of Alexandria’s homeownership programs can take advantage of free housing counseling services. The counseling program features a group training, followed by two hours of individual counseling. The City’s Office of Housing can provide additional information on all training and financial assistance resources available to residents. For more information, please call 703.746.4990.

The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the City’s Human Rights Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation or to request materials in an alternative format, contact Shane Cochran at 703.746.4990 (TTY Virginia Relay 711) or e-mail at shane.cochran@alexandriava.gov.  Because of the scope of this event, requests for reasonable accommodations should be placed at least 48 hours in advance.
