City of Alexandria Hosts iM2 Film Festival on April 1

The iM2--iMovie Mentors program is hosting its first annual film festival on Tuesday, April 1 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Old Town Theater at 815½ King St. The program pairs adult male mentors with boys at George Washington Middle School. The mentors and students attend weekly workshops together to establish a mentoring relationship and learn the fundamentals of filmmaking. The mentors help young participants acquire life and technological skills, and they work on a project to produce short film together that is featured at the iM2 Film Festival.

Film festival attendees, in addition to supporting youth participants and their mentors, will see films that feature interesting documentaries about Alexandria’s Mayor Euille, The Potomac Belle and The Alexandria Fire Department and possible ghosts that haunt the City. Attendees may purchase tickets at the door beginning at 5:00 p.m. on April 1. Tickets are $5 per person and admission includes popcorn and soda. The iM2 program is funded by the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program and the Virginia Department of Criminal Justices Services, and is sponsored by The Alexandria Court Service Unit and The City of Alexandria. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, or would like more information about the film festival, please e-mail linda.odell@alexandriava.gov.

The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the City’s Human Rights Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act. To request a reasonable accommodation or to request materials in an alternative format, contact Linda Odell at 703.838.4144 (TTY Virginia Relay 711) or e-mail at linda.odell@alexandriava.gov
