City of Alexandria Invites Public to Rally Honoring T.C. Williams’ Winning Basketball Teams
The City of Alexandria invites the public to join Mayor William D. Euille and members of the City Council, the Alexandria School Board, and the Alexandria Public Schools in a rally to honor the T.C. Williams boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. The rally, on Tuesday, March 25 in Market Square (in front of City Hall, 301 King St.), at 6:15 p.m., will celebrate the teams’ winning seasons, including the first State Championship for the boys’ basketball team in more than 30 years. After the rally, both teams will be honored with a proclamation from the Mayor at the City Council’s regular legislative meeting at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers.
Last week, the T.C. Williams High School boys’ basketball team beat the Bethel High School Bruins 70-57 to win the Virginia High School League AAA Boys Varsity Basketball Tournament at the Siegel Center in Richmond. The Titans are Virginia Champions for the first time since 1977, and their win ends a 27-year Northern Region state title drought. The T.C. Williams High School girls’ basketball team celebrated an unbeaten season before losing to Robinson High School in the first round of the Northern Region playoffs in late February.
“I am extremely proud of the Titans’ basketball team accomplishments,” stated Mayor Euille. “The City of Alexandria looks forward to recognizing them for their success in bringing a championship back to the community for the first time in more than 30 years.”
