Saturday, March 8 – Eco-City Café
The public is invited to attend the City of Alexandria's Eco-City Café from 8:30 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. at George Washington Middle School, 1005 Mount Vernon Ave. The key goal of this event is to conduct roundtable discussions to gather input and recommendations from community stakeholders about various environmental issues facing the City of Alexandria. The information will be used to develop an Eco-City Charter and Environmental Action Plan that will be considered for adoption by City Council later this year. Saturday, March 8 – Friends of Burke Branch Library Present March Madness Festival
The public is invited to attend the Burke Branch Library’s March Madness Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is located at 4701 Seminary Rd. Children’s authors Martin and Delia Wach will make an appearance and several children’s activities, including crafts, story times, and refreshments, will be provided. Admission is free. Saturday, March 8 – Support the Alexandria Office on Women at Ten Thousand Villages
In honor of International Women’s Day, March 8, Ten Thousand Villages, located at 915 King St., will donate 10 percent of the day’s sales to the Alexandria Office on Women’s Domestic Violence Program. This is the second year that the store will be using International Women’s Day to raise local awareness and contribute funds to prevent domestic violence in Alexandria. Monday, March 10 – Tavern Toddlers
Because it is never too early for kids to appreciate history, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum developed this special program for toddlers (walkers through 36 months) and their caregivers. Tavern Toddlers features a weekly open playtime every Monday through April at the museum, 134 N. Royal St. In March, the focus is Going on a Trip where children will go on adventures as they pretend to be travelers. Wednesday, March 12 – 2008 Gypsy Moth Suppression Program Open House

Wednesday, March 12 – Potomac Yard Design Advisory Committee (PYDAC) Meeting
The public is invited to attend the PYDAC meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Sister Cities Conference Room 1101 at City Hall, 301 King St. The PYDAC meets monthly to review applications for preliminary development plan approvals in Potomac Yard; ensure compliance with the Potomac Yard Urban Design Guidelines; and make recommendations to the Planning Commission and City Council for their consideration. Thursday, March 13 – Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) Quarterly Workshop

The City of Alexandria will hold a community meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 17 at the Mount Vernon Elementary School auditorium, 2601 Commonwealth Ave., to discuss and provide input on the future of a proposed park at Potomac Yard. Tuesday, March 18 – Adopt-a-Park Open House
The public is invited to attend an open house on Tuesday, March 18 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St., to recruit volunteers for the Adopt-a-Park Litter Control program. Saturday, March 29 – Ninth Annual Dance for All Ages “Sock Hop”
The City invites the public to attend the ninth Annual Dance for All Ages on Saturday, March 29 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at T.C. Williams High School, 3330 King St. This year’s theme is a “Sock Hop,” featuring music of the 1950s and 1960s by disc jockey Steve McIntire. Admission and parking are free. Monday, March 31 – Annual Salute to Women Awards Banquet
The Alexandria Commission for Women invites the public to attend the 28th Annual Salute to Women Awards Banquet. Individual banquet tickets can be purchased online through the City’s eChecks system or by downloading the invitation and reservation card at www.alexwomen.com. Now Being Accepted – History Award Nominations
The Alexandria Historical Society is calling for nominations for the 2008 Alexandria History Award, to be presented to a person or persons who have made noteworthy contributions to the preservation of the historic, cultural, and artistic heritage of Alexandria. Honorees will be presented with a certificate and gift at a special awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m., at The Lyceum, 201 S. Washington St. Organizations and interested individuals are invited to submit written nominations, in the form of a narrative no longer than two pages, which explain the contributions of the nominee.
