Saturday, February 2 – Civil War in Silent Film
See how the 50th anniversary of the Civil War was captured in early movies! Buster Keaton’s classic “The General” will be screened at Fort Ward, 4301 W. Monday, February 4 – Community Meeting on Uptown/Parker-Gray Nomination
The Department of Planning and Zoning invites the public to participate in a community meeting about the nomination process for the Uptown/Parker-Gray neighborhood to the National Register of Historic Places.  The National Register is the United States’ official list of historic buildings, structures, sites, objects and districts worthy of preservation. Wednesday, February 6 – Freedmen’s Cemetery Design Competition Reception
The Freedmen's Cemetery Steering Committee will kick off a design competition for the Contrabands and Freedmen's Cemetery Memorial with a reception at the Alexandria Black History Museum, 902 Wythe St., at 7 p.m. This event marks the next phase in the City's plans for Freedmen's Cemetery, the abandoned Civil War-era African-American burial ground that the City purchased and rededicated last year. City Archaeologist Pamela Cressey will present an overview of the history of the site and highlights of the archaeological investigation her office carried out last year. Thursday, February 7 – 18th-Century Dance Lessons
In preparation for the Birthnight Ball on February 16th, learn 18th-century English country dancing from expert dance instructors at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, 134 N. Thursday, February 7 – Community Meeting on Key Drive Drainage Improvements
The City of Alexandria invites residents to participate in a community meeting to learn about proposed drainage improvements along Key Drive.  The meeting will be held at T.C. Williams High School (3330 King St.) at 7 p.m. These drainage improvements are needed to reduce flooding issues and provide a long-term solution to minimize the repair and replacement of driveway culverts along Key Drive.  For more information, please contact Lisa Jaatinen at 703.519.3400, ext. 222 or lisa.jaatinen@alexandriava.gov.

Wednesday, February 27 – artCHAT at the Torpedo Factory Art Center
The Alexandria Commission for Arts invites the public to attend an artCHAT at 7 p.m. at the Torpedo Factory Art Center (105 N. Union St.). The artCHAT will offer residents the opportunity to further explore this groundbreaking survey. The discussion will feature Mary Margaret Schoenfeld, Community Development Manager with Americans for the Arts, and members of the Alexandria arts community. Admission to the artCHAT and the Torpedo Factory Art Center are free.
