City of Alexandria and Alexandria City Public Schools Cosponsor Education Forum on February 9

The City of Alexandria and the Alexandria City Public Schools will jointly host a public forum on education on Saturday, February 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Ferdinand Day Student Commons at T.C. Williams High School, 3330 King St.  The event is free and open to the public, and no RSVP is required.  In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled for Saturday, March 8.

The forum, titled Community and Schools: Forging New Partnerships to Advance Education, will invite participants to engage in discussion about dropout prevention, academic excellence for all students, positive youth development, and child development and learning in years 0-5.

At the invitation of Mayor William D. Euille, the keynote speaker at the forum will be Juan Williams, senior correspondent for National Public Radio, television correspondent and Emmy award-winning writer.  Williams has keen insight and knowledge of the educational needs of youth, based on his many years of experience as a distinguished journalist in the Washington area.
