City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services In Observance of New Year’s Day, January 1

All Alexandria City government offices will be closed on Tuesday, January 1, in observance of New Year’s Day. The City’s Finance Office will be closed on Saturday, December 29.

All City of Alexandria recreation centers, including the Chinquapin Recreation Center, will be closed on Tuesday, January 1.

All City of Alexandria Libraries will be closing at 5 p.m. on Monday, December 31, for New Year’s Eve and will be closed on Tuesday, January 1.

DASH will operate a regular schedule on Monday, December 31, with additional service in Old Town for First Night Alexandria.  After 5:00 PM on New Year’s Eve, service between the King Street Metro and City Hall will be free, along with free shuttle service between First Night Alexandria events and venues.  DASH bus service will not operate on Tuesday, January 1.

Residential trash and recycling will not be collected on Tuesday, January 1, and all collections will be delayed one day for the rest of the week.

The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on January 1.

The following Commonwealth of Virginia offices located in Alexandria will be closed on January 1: The General and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Courts, the Circuit Court, and the DMV Office at 2681 Mill Road.

The Alexandria Health Department, one of 35 district offices operated by the Virginia Department of Health’s Division of Community Services, will be closed on January 1. The Flora Krause Casey Health Center (1200 N. Howard St.) and the Adolescent Health Center (3701 W. Braddock Road) will also be closed on January 1.

All emergency hotlines operated by the Alexandria Office on Women operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the domestic violence hotline, 703.838.4911, and the sexual assault hotline, 703.683.7273.
