Weekly Event Announcements for the City of Alexandria November 24 - 30, 2007 Saturday, November 24 – Cooking Demonstration at Market Square Chef Anthony Chittum of Vermillion Restaurant will give a cooking demonstration at the Alexandria Farmers’ Market, located at Market Square, 301 King St. Chef Chittum will demonstrate how to prepare a variety of culinary delights—and samples will be available for tasting following the demonstration. Saturday, November 24 – Scottish Heritage Preview Come celebrate Alexandria’s Scottish heritage at The Lyceum, 201 South Washington St., a week before the Scottish Walk. Meet Scottish Tartan Day leaders and learn about Scottish breed dogs while enjoying bagpipes, highland dancing, historical re-enactors, and more on Saturday, November 24, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free! Friday, November 30 – Grand Opening of the Duke Street Pedestrian Overpass The Mayor and members of City Council will cut the ribbon for the new “green” Duke Street pedestrian overpass at 8:30 a.m. at the Ben Brenman Park Pavilion, 4800 Ben Brenman Park Drive. The event is free and open to the public. The overpass provides a key walking and bicycling connection from Cameron Station to the Beatley Library. At the opening, attendees will have the opportunity to walk or bicycle from Ben Brenman Park across the bridge via two new 8-foot sidepaths. Continuing Exhibit – “God Has Made a Way in Leesburg” “God Has Made a Way in Leesburg,” a photography exhibition by Big Al Carter, is open at the Alexandria Black History Museum, 902 Wythe St. These large format images, on display for the first time, showcase Carter’s family members and their community in Loudoun County during the early 1970s.
