Tickets Now Available for City of Alexandria Alex Awards Alexandria Commission for the Arts' Annual Gala Event Seven nominees are being considered by a panel of judges to receive the prestigious Alex Awards this year. Winners will be announced at the Alexandria Commission for the Arts' Annual Gala, scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, November 2 at the Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center, 1605 Cameron Street. Individuals and organizations are recognized for their contributions to the cultural fabric of the Alexandria community. Alex Awards will be presented in four categories of excellence: Artistic Discipline; Service to the Arts; Outstanding Contributions to Arts Education; and Innovative Partnerships Between Businesses and the Arts. Chip Brienza, Weekend Host at Classical WETA 90.9, will emcee the event. The 2007 Alex Awards nominees are:

Faser, Alexandria Performing Arts Association and Alexandria Arts Forum William Hubbard, Composer, Arranger, Pianist, Singer, Vocalist, Actor and Music Director Wesley McCune, John Adams Elementary School Barbara Brecher, Brecher Design Group Carbon Copy, Musical Group Jennifer Lyman, Little Theatre of Alexandria Each recipient selected for an Alex Award will receive a framed monograph by Betsy Anderson and a brass star draped on a blue ribbon by David M. Martin of Gold Works. "To receive an Alex Award is indeed a wonderful honor," said Pat Miller, Chair, Alexandria Commission for the Arts. "This is Alexandria's most prestigious art award and is given to individuals and organizations that have provided outstanding contributions to the Alexandria community."
