City of Alexandria Hosts Reuse and Recycling Event

The City of Alexandria’s Office of Recycling is cosponsoring a “Regional Reuse Roundup” to collect materials for reuse and recycling. The event will be held on Saturday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology, located at 3600 Commonwealth Avenue.

The public is invited to drop off their gently used items for donation to nonprofit organizations that will redistribute them. Items being accepted for donation include bicycles and bicycle parts, books and audio books, building materials, CDs, cellular telephones, clothing, printer cartridges, DVDs, furniture, portable sewing machines, VHS tapes, and tools. Before donating any items, please make sure that the items are in good condition or contact the Office of Recycling to make sure the items can be reused rather than discarded.

The event is also sponsored by ALIVE!, Bikes for the World, Community Forklift, Diana’s Books, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and RecycleInk.

For more information on this event, please call Christine McCoy at 703.519.3486, ext. 132, e-mail christine.mccoy@alexandriava.gov, or visit www.alexrecycles.org.
