Alexandria Beautification Commission Announces
2007 Beautification Award Winners

The Alexandria Beautification Commission has announced the 2007 Alexandria Beautification Commission Award winners. This year, the Commission presented 28 residential awards, one commercial award, and three public awards in a ceremony held at the Alexandria Lyceum on October 1.

Nominations are made by members of the Commission and the community and the nominees are judged by Commission members on the use of plants, texture and color, the context of the neighborhood, marked improvements, and overall appearance. Winners must be chosen from properties visible from the public right of way. Awards are given in residential, commercial, public, and service categories.

The Alexandria Beautification Commission is a 12-member volunteer board approved by the City Council for two-year terms. The Beautification Commission represents citizens' values in City beautification matters and coordinates projects to encourage and achieve beautification. The Commission sponsors the Alexandria Beautification Commission Awards each year, recognizing residents’ special efforts to contribute to the beautification of their neighborhoods and public vistas with landscaping and overall aesthetic design.

For more information about the Awards program, please contact Marie Johnston, Commission chair, via e-mail at Marie.Johnston@navy.mil
