City of Alexandria to Cosponsor Kick-off Fundraising Event
For Planned Soft Playroom at the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center

The public is invited to attend a fundraising kick-off event in support of a planned soft playroom at the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center on Saturday, September 29, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The kick-off event will take place at Chinquapin Park Picnic Area 3, located at 3210 King St. Admission is free.

The event features children’s activities, including arts and crafts, games, live entertainment, and Mr. Don, an award winning children’s entertainer, who will perform from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Members of the Soft Playroom Volunteer Parents’ Group will be available to discuss the proposed design of the playroom. In the event of inclement weather, activities will be moved to inside the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center.

The Soft Playroom will be located in the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center Club Room 4. The proposed design for the 800 square-foot room is in progress and will feature a nature theme with soft play structures that can be arranged in a variety of configurations, which can be used for activities for youth of different ages. Classes and other programs designed around the soft play room will be offered by the City’s Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities. When completed, there will be an admission fee charged for use of the soft playroom, and to participate in activities.

The fundraising event is cosponsored by the Soft Playroom Volunteer Parents’ Group and the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. For additional information, or to make a contribution, visit www.supportthesoftplayroom.com.
