City to Host a Town Meeting on Economic Sustainability Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille and members of the City Council invite residents and business owners to participate in an Economic Sustainability Town Meeting on Saturday, September 29 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Complimentary parking and a continental breakfast, beginning at 8:00 a.m., will be provided for attendees. The meeting will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, located at 901 N. Fairfax St. in Old Town. The Town Meeting will focus on the draft report of the Economic Sustainability Work Group. "The City Council created the work group to undertake a review of the City’s economic condition and to develop recommendations to help sustain the City’s economy and government revenues over the long term,” said Mayor Euille. “We are looking forward to this next phase of citizen input. Council is particularly eager to hear input about the actions we can take to increase City revenues from commercial real estate taxes, thereby helping the City pay for needed services and capital projects and reducing the residential real estate tax burden,” he said. Eleven Alexandria residents and business persons with a wide range of experience and expertise comprise the work group. Nigel Morris, who chairs the group, is the co-founder and former President/Chief Operating Officer of the well-known financial services and credit card company Capital One. Other members of the group include a former Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Treasury, venture capital managers, regional commercial real estate and economic experts, as well as individuals with a breadth of civic and business participation on a range of City issues. Over the past year, the work group held meetings and developed draft economic-related recommendations for land use transportation, travel and tourism, and economic development structures, as well as the government regulatory environment and processes in relation to effects on the overall City business climate. At the September 29th Town Hall meeting, attendees will hear from work group members, participate in discussions, and provide feedback to the Mayor and City Council. The City of Alexandria is committed to compliance with the City’s Human Rights Code and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
