City of Alexandria to Hold Annual Scottish Heritage Fair

The City of Alexandria will celebrate its local Scottish culture at the annual Scottish Heritage Fair on Sunday, October 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Fort Ward Park, located at 4301 West Braddock Road. Admission is free and the festival will be held rain or shine.

The fair will feature traditional Scottish music by Carl Peterson; Scottish country dances from the Royal Scottish Dance Society (Northern Virginia Branch); Scottish pipes and drums; Highland dancing; Scottish weaponry demonstrations; Gaelic singing; and Clans by the score. Other highlights include unique exhibits, such as one on Scottish achievement and innovation; genealogists; and vendors, whose wares will showcase traditional Scottish arts, crafts, and souvenirs. Food and beverages will also be available for sale.

The City’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is co-sponsoring the event with the Alexandria Scottish Heritage Fair Council, a local nonprofit organization that promotes and preserves Scottish heritage. Parking restrictions will be lifted on Braddock Road and Howard Street, with overflow parking available at Minnie Howard School, 3801 West Braddock Road, and at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School, 4401 West Braddock Road. Public transportation is available through the DASH bus system and by Metrorail and Metrobus.
