City of Alexandria Commission for the Arts
Schedules Fiscal Year 2008-2009 Grant Workshops

The City of Alexandria Commission for the Arts has scheduled grant workshops on Monday, September 24 and Wednesday, October 17 from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Recreation Center, located at 1605 Cameron St. The workshops will provide information about the Commission’s programs and services, specifically highlighting its annual grant program, which provides funding for various arts programs. All interested applications, including past grant recipients, are encouraged to attend either grant workshop.

The goals of the Commission’s grant program include encouraging artistic excellence in the City; assisting Alexandria-based arts organizations in improving their financial, administrative, and management capabilities; and providing individual artists with opportunities to create, perform, and present their works. Approximately $200,000 in funding is available to assist local artists and arts organizations.

The Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Recreation Center is a short walk from the King Street Metro Station and is also served by DASH transit lines AT #2, #5, and #7. For route and schedule information, call 703.370.DASH (3274) or visit www.dashbus.com. For Metrobus schedule information, call 202.637.7000, or visit www.wmata.com.
