City of Alexandria Accepts Applications for Citizens’ Police Academy Class Begins on September 5 The City of Alexandria is accepting applications for the Citizens’ Police Academy. The 10-week course familiarizes participants with various aspects of the Alexandria Police Department, such as its administrative philosophy, internal policies, and the guiding principles of law and ethical conduct governing the delivery of police services. The academy will be held every Wednesday from 6:30 to 10:00 pm at the Police Department’s Hoffman Facility; 2034 Eisenhower Ave. Class begins on September 5 and ends with a formal graduation on November 14. Participants of the Citizens’ Police Academy must be at least 21 years of age, live or work in the City, and have no misdemeanor arrests within the year of application. The academy’s curriculum covers the core elements that are essential for participants to gain a greater understanding of police operations. As a result of their participation, they can make more informed judgments about the Alexandria Police Department and its daily operations. The Police Department is simultaneously able to acquire a greater understanding of the views and concerns of the community through an enhanced relationship with the public.
