Next week, area teens will learn law enforcement practices at a regional explorer camp. The Potomac Boundary Advisors Association (PBAA) announces their Youth Law Enforcement Academy. The Academy will be held at Mt. St. Mary’s University at 16300 Old Emmitsburg Road in Emmitsburg, Maryland from June 24 through June 29, 2007.

The Academy provides an opportunity for high school aged children to develop leadership and practical skills within a structured environment. They will be exposed to subjects such as DUI, including the use of simulation goggles, Hostage Negotiations, Bomb Threats, SWAT tactics and Incident Command.

With regional law enforcement agencies, explorers are introduced to several different styles of policing. Programs conducted throughout the year by the PBAA include leadership development seminars, social activities and para-military style boot camps. Explorers build life-long friendships and establish valuable contacts with other agencies that aid them as they prepare to enter a career in law enforcement.

Founded in 1980, the PBAA is an organization comprised of police officers and sheriff’s deputies from the metropolitan area who serve as their agency’s law enforcement exploring program advisors. Hundreds of law enforcement explorers benefit from programs provided by the PBAA.

For further information about the Academy or the PBAA, contact Officer Dana Newsome at 202-437-1553.
