City to Hold Annual USA & City Birthday Celebration on July 7 Alexandria’s 258th and USA’s 231st The City of Alexandria will celebrate its 258th and the USA’s 231st birthday on Saturday, July 7, from 4 pm to 10 pm at Oronoco Bay Park, 7 North Lee Street located at the Potomac River between Fairfax, Pendleton and Madison Streets. The main event features Maestro Kim Allen Kluge and the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra presenting an explosive night of fun and fanfare with “Dancing by the Potomac” featuring Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman Big Band, Salsa and Bossa Nova music. The schedule of activities is as follows: 4-7:30 pm Community Exhibitors, Children’s Activities, and Refreshment & Food Sales 6 pm Performance by Pan Master featuring Calypso, Classical, and Reggae Steel Orchestra 7:30 pm The Town Crier Announces Mayor William D. Euille Presentation of Park and Recreation Commission’s CIVIC Awards Poetry Reading by Mary McElveen, Alexandria’s Poet Laureate 8 pm Cutting and Distribution of Birthday Cake by the Honorable Mayor and Members of City Council 8:30 pm "Dancing by the Potomac" with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra, Kim Allen Kluge, Music Director Oronoco Bay Park has grass seating, and participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Food and beverages are available for purchase, but everyone is welcome to pack a picnic supper. No grilling is allowed during the event. Parking is available at Simpson Properties Garage, 700 North Fairfax Street; Carr America, 44 Canal Center Plaza; and Trammell Crow Company, 601 North Fairfax Street.
