LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL FOR THE FUND FOR ALEXANDRIA’S CHILD
Cajun Swamp Stomp 2 to be held on June 28

The public is invited to The Cajun Swamp Stomp 2: the 4th annual Fostering the Future Cruise on June 28. The evening of food and fun, hosted by the Alexandria Department of Human Services’ The Fund for Alexandria’s Child Advisory Council, benefits Alexandria’s most vulnerable children: those who are in foster care or who are at risk of abuse and neglect.

The good times will roll aboard the Cherry Blossom where the indomitable spirit of Louisiana takes over, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception at the dock at Cameron and Union Streets, behind the Torpedo Factory Art Center. At 7:30 p.m. it’s all aboard the Cherry Blossom, a luxurious refurbished paddleboat, for dinner, dancing and cruising on the Potomac until 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $65 per person (for adults only, please) and the cost is tax deductible to the full extent of the law.

The Cruise Sponsor is Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group, Inc. Other major supporters of The Cajun Swamp Stomp 2 are: Potomac Riverboat Company; Saylor Foundation; William D. Euille Foundation; Sue and Marty Goodhart, Realtors; Captain Brian Buzzell; COMCAST Communications; Rob and Callie MacKenzie; R & B Heating and Air Conditioning; Dominion Dental Services; Barkett Foundation; Alexandria Toyota; T. J. Fannon; Frank Fannon SunTrust Mortgage Old Town; Caboose Caf and Bakery; Family Advocacy Services of Virginia; Stone Aesthetic Dentistry; Wachovia; Dave Hawkins/McEnearney Associates; Jennifer Walker/McEnearney Associates; William Harrison Imports, Inc.; and ASAP Printing. All the proceeds go directly to support at-risk children. A portion will also be donated to foster children in Greater New Orleans, who continue to feel the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Last year’s Fostering the Future Cruise was so successful that the two-stepping will be repeated in the Cajun Swamp Stomp 2, featuring a medley of sounds, sights and tastes of Louisiana. The nationally known band, Roy Carrier and the Night Rockers, will perform and WPGC’s Texas Fred, the Zydeco Cowboy will serve as announcer. Mango Mike’s will provide the Louisiana-themed buffet. Hurricane cocktails, sodas, beer and wine are included. Whole Foods Market has donated desserts. Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

The Fund for Alexandria’s Child provides enriching and rewarding activities for some of society’s most forgotten children, children in foster care or at risk of abuse and neglect, when there are no funds available from any other source. Monies raised by The Fund pay for such items and activities as scout uniforms, club dues, sports equipment, karate or art lessons, class field trips, prom dresses, graduation fees, community college books, camping, and many other activities that make a child’s life richer.
