City of Alexandria Joins Other Northern Virginia Jurisdictions
For Fifth Annual Watershed-Friendly Garden Tour

The City of Alexandria will join Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment, Arlington County, Fairfax County, the City of Falls Church, and the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District for the Fifth Annual Watershed-Friendly Garden Tour to educate local residents on how they can help protect local water resources through practices in their own backyard. The free tour will take place on Sunday, June 3, from 1 to 5 pm at local homes and properties in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax County, and Falls Church. The event will feature watershed-friendly elements, such as cisterns, rain barrels, rain gardens, shade gardens, backyard-wildlife habitats, and native species.

Local residents will inform participants of the tour how they made their yards more watershed friendly.

The tour will include Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka’s watershed-friendly yard, which has several environmental features that help reduce runoff and water pollution. Staff from the City’s Division of Environmental Quality will be present at two sites to answer questions and provide information about what the City is doing to protect local water resources.
