Alexandria Police Charge Man with Woman’s Death;
Cause of Death Remains Under Investigation

Alexandria police have made an arrest in the death of a woman whose body was discovered last night. Paul A. Zibi-Melingui, 22, was charged with second-degree murder early this morning in connection with the death of Sophie S. Mani-Mbaga. Mani-Mbaga, 19, was found deceased inside her home at 3824 Usher Court yesterday evening.

Officers were called to the home on Sunday, May 13, at 5:19 p.m., for the report of a missing person. While police were there, residents found the victim’s body inside a storage area. An autopsy was performed today but the cause of death and manner of death have not yet been determined.

The suspect is also a resident of 3824 Usher Court and is the victim’s half-brother. He is being held without bond at the Alexandria detention facility.

A motive for this incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Alexandria detectives at 703.838.4711.

Note: A photo of the suspect is not being released at this time because detectives still need to interview additional witnesses.
