Alexandria police are investigating the murders of two men on the north side of Old Town. This morning, around 2:15 a.m., police were called to the 800 block of North Patrick Street for a report of the sound of gunshots. Almost simultaneously, patrol officers arrived and found two men in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to area hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.

The victims, whose identities have not been released pending the notification of next of kin, suffered gunshot wounds. Autopsies will be performed to determine the exact causes of death.

Route 1 northbound, which is North Patrick Street through the City, was closed until about 7:10 a.m. as investigators documented the crime scene. Northbound traffic was diverted during the investigation.

These are the second and third homicides in Alexandria this year. There were five murders in Alexandria last year.

A motive for the murders has not yet been determined. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Alexandria detectives at 703-838-4711.
