City of Alexandria Invites Public to Attend Community Meeting
on March 22 on Pedestrian and Bicycle Mobility Plan

Residents Can Learn About Plan and Participate In Its Development

The City of Alexandria is working to reduce dependence on cars and offer citizens more transportation choices. One way is by improving access for persons with disabilities, pedestrians, and bicyclists. A Pedestrian and Bicycle Mobility Plan is being developed that will become the City’s blueprint for infrastructure improvements over the next 10 years as funds become available.

The City invites the public to attend a community meeting at 7 pm on Thursday, March 22, at City Hall, 301 King St., in Room 1101, to learn about the plan and participate in its development. Implementation of the plan will result in safer conditions and make walking and bicycling more attractive transportation choices in Alexandria.

A link to the project’s Web site at
www.AlexRide.org also includes an on-line survey where residents’ input may help neighborhoods, or specific streets and intersections, become more walkable and bicycle friendly. A Spanish-language survey is available online and additional surveys in English and Spanish are available on all DASH buses.

The City is taking an in-depth look at its entire pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, so future improvements may be incorporated into small-area plans, site plans, regular roadway maintenance, and trail projects.

A complete project description, schedule, and opportunities for public participation are available at
www.AlexRide.org. The planning process is expected to conclude this summer with a final report due in the fall.

For more information on the community meeting or the Pedestrian and Bicycle Mobility Plan, call Yon Lambert, the City’s Pedestrian and Bicycle Program Coordinator, at 703-838-4966 or visit
www.AlexRide.org.
