CITY OF ALEXANDRIA HOSTS TRANSPORTATION WORKSHOPS FOR LOCAL EMPLOYERS BEGINNING TUESDAY, FEB. 6 Businesses Learn About Various Transportation Programs and Benefits Offered through City The City of Alexandria will host a series of three transportation workshops beginning Tuesday, Feb. 6, to assist local businesses in utilizing the various transportation options offered through the City. The free workshops are part of the “Workplace Solutions: Fresh Ideas for Smart Managers” series that informs employers about Alexandria’s transportation programs and benefits. The workshops will take place at the Charles E. Beatley Jr. Central Library, located at 5005 Duke St., on the following dates: Tuesday, Feb. 6 9:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Get Smart with SmartBenefits! Businesses will learn about SmartBenefits, a Web-based program that lets employers electronically transfer the dollar value of Metrochek transit, vanpool, and parking benefits directly onto an employee’s SmarTrip card. The SmarTrip card allows Metro riders to pay for travel on Metrorail and Metrobus and to pay for parking at Metro parking facilities. Thursday, Feb. 22 9:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. IRS-Qualified Transportation Fringe Benefit Programs Industry experts and company representatives share what it takes to create a winning transportation benefits program. Wednesday, March 7 11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Transportation Benefits – Marketing 101 A panel of marketing experts and fellow business representatives show how to promote public transportation, rideshare, bicycling, and telework to increase participation in transportation benefits programs. “Promoting alternatives to single-passenger commuting is a top priority of the Alexandria City Council,” said Richard Baier, Director of the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services. “We appreciate all that businesses do to help decrease traffic congestion and will continue to offer programs that support this effort.” The workshops are open to all businesses located in the City and are ideal for administrators working in human resources, parking, facilities management, and personnel benefits.
