CITY OF ALEXANDRIA SCHEDULES THREE COMMUNITY BRIEFINGS ON UPCOMING BUDGET PROCESS AND ISSUES Neighborhood Information Sessions Will Be Held Prior to Release of FY2008 Budget Alexandria City Manager James K. Hartmann and the Citys Office of Management and Budget today announced a schedule of three pre-budget briefings to be held in late January and early February at convenient locations throughout the City. The neighborhood meetings are designed to provide interested residents with detailed information on the City’s budget process prior to the City Managers scheduled introduction of the proposed Fiscal Year 2008 Budget at the February 13 City Council meeting. “We encourage all Alexandrians to come out to one of these pre-budget sessions to learn how their City goes about preparing its annual budget,” said City Manager Hartmann. “We want to ensure that all interested residents understand this process, and the best time to learn about it is before the actual budget is presented.” Specific topics to be covered include: $ the City Council’s new budget process; $ the City Council’s budget targets set for Fiscal Year 2008 for both the City of Alexandria and the Alexandria City Public Schools; $ an overview of current economic, revenue and budget trends; $ an explanation of the new program and performance-based budget to be submitted to City Council for Fiscal Year 2008 as well as the Managing for Results Initiative; and $ the schedule for budget work sessions and public hearings leading up to Council adoption of the budget on May 7, 2007. Question-and-answer sessions will follow all presentations. The three briefings will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the following dates: $ Wednesday, January 24, at Beatley Library (5005 Duke Street) $ Tuesday, January 30, at The Lyceum (201 S.
