Alexandria Police Featured in 2007 Calendar
Motorcops Calendar to Benefit Families of Fallen Officers

The Alexandria Police Motorcycle Squad is one of a dozen motorcycle units in the 2007 Motorcops calendar, now on sale. The Alexandria squad is highlighted in July with nine officers standing with their motors at Market Square in front of a giant U.S. flag draping part of City Hall.

Other area agencies featured in the calendar are the Virginia State Police and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.

According to Mark Kopang, owner of Motorcops.com and the calendar’s photographer, “It is always exciting to see the final product after working on it for nearly a year.” Close to sixty police motorcycle units submitted requests to be included in the calendar and the final selection was based on location, motorcycle equipment, uniform and unit size.

Besides group and individual photos of the motorcycle officers, there is a special tribute section for two motor officers who were killed in the line of duty. One goal of the calendar is to raise money for charities that support the families of fallen officers. So far this year, eleven law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty in Virginia, second only to California.

“We’re very honored to be included in the 2007 calendar,” said Sergeant Delton Goodrum, supervisor of Alexandria’s motor squad. “The photos turned out great and more importantly, it’s for a worthwhile cause.”

The 2007 Motorcops calendar is available for $9.95 and can be ordered at www.motorcops.com.
