HOSTS DECEMBER 6 MEETING OF VIRGINIA STATE BOARD OF SOCIAL SERVICES

The City of Alexandria Department of Human Services will host the December monthly meeting of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s State Board of Social Services on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 9 am at the Human Services building, 2525 Mt. Vernon Ave.

The agenda includes an overview of the Alexandria Division of Social Services, a 2007 General Assembly preview and updates on assisted living facility regulation and child support enforcement. The meeting is open to the public and a public comment period will be held at 1:30 pm.

The nine State Board members, who are appointed by the Governor, review new policies and programs for compliance with State and federal law, adopt standards and regulations for licensure of adult and child care facilities and adopt regulations for implementing social services legislation. The Board, which also serves in an advisory capacity to the Commissioner of Social Services, meets at various locations in the Commonwealth to hear and learn about local issues.
