CITY OF ALEXANDRIA INAUGURATES HOLIDAY SEASON
WITH ANNUAL MARKET SQUARE TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY
ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24

The City of Alexandria will officially bring in the 2006 Holiday Season with its annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony at Market Square on Friday, November 24 at 7 p.m.

An annual highlight for City residents and their neighbors throughout the region, the Tree Lighting program features musical entertainment and caroling on the day after Thanksgiving, the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season. Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille will welcome visitors and introduce the anticipated special guest, Santa Claus.

Visitors to Alexandria’s Historic Old Town can get into the holiday spirit and enjoy the festive sounds of the season at Market Square while they shop and dine throughout the Holiday Season. On Saturday, November 25, the Nighthawks Swing Band will perform Holiday Big Band selections at 2 p.m., followed by the Ship's Company Chantymen at 3 p.m. On Sunday, November 26, the Latin Jazz All-Stars will perform Feliz Navidad/Latino Holiday Music at 2 p.m.

A complete listing of Market Square Holiday Concert performances will be announced later this week.

Outdoor concerts may be cancelled in the event of inclement weather. For additional information and to receive updated events information, call the City’s Special Events Office at 703-838-4844 or the Special Events Hotline at 703-883-4686.
