CITY OF ALEXANDRIA ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE OF SERVICES
FOR FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 10, VETERANS DAY OBSERVED

With limited exceptions, all City of Alexandria offices will remain open as usual on Friday, November 10, which is a legal holiday in the Commonwealth of Virginia in observance of Veterans Day, which falls on Saturday, November 11.

All Alexandria Health Department offices and facilities will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10, including the Flora Krause Casey Health Center at 1200 N. Howard St. and the Adolescent Health Center at 3701 W. Braddock Road. The Alexandria Health Department is one of 35 district offices operated by the Virginia Department of Health’s Division of Community Services.

All City of Alexandria recreation centers will operate on a normal schedule on Friday, Nov. 10.

All Alexandria City libraries will be open on Friday, Nov. 10.

Alexandria City Public Schools and offices will operate on a normal schedule on Friday, Nov. 10.

City of Alexandria residential trash, recycling and biodegradable leaf bag collections will proceed as usual on Friday, Nov. 10.

Enforcement of City of Alexandria metered space parking, residential district permit parking, and other posted time limit parking restrictions will be suspended on Friday Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 11.

DASH bus service will operate a regular weekday schedule on Friday, Nov. 10.

Commonwealth of Virginia offices located in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts and the Clerk of Court’s Office, will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10.

All Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles offices, including the Alexandria DMV Office at 2681 Mill Road, will be closed on Friday, Nov. 10.

The United States Government designates November 11 as the Veterans Day legal public holiday but grants its employees an additional day of leave when that date falls on a Saturday or Sunday. The Commonwealth of Virginia designates November 11 as a legal holiday but also recognizes the preceding Friday or the following Monday as a legal holiday when that date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, respectively.

City of Alexandria offices close annually on the Friday after Thanksgiving Day in lieu of observing Veterans Day on any day other than November 11.
