CITY OF ALEXANDRIA’S WINTER FUEL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
HELPS LOW-INCOME RESIDENTS MEET HIGH HOME HEATING BILLS

The City of Alexandria’s Department of Human Services is now accepting applications for the 2006-07 Winter Fuel Assistance Program. The program provides financial assistance to help eligible low-income residents pay home heating fuel bills. Applications will be accepted through Monday, Nov. 13.

Benefits are based on household size, income, and type of fuel. Applicants will receive written notice of eligibility and benefit level, which will be calculated by the Virginia Department of Social Services. Income and resources of all household members will be verified. Payments are usually made directly to the energy provider.

Eligible households may also receive assistance with repair and replacement of inoperable heating equipment.

To apply for the program, visit the Department of Human Services, 2525 Mt. Vernon Ave., Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
