SEASONAL CLOSINGS SCHEDULED
FOR CITY OF ALEXANDRIA’S OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOLS


The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities announces the 2006 seasonal closing of the City’s Outdoor Swimming Pools.


The three operational Outdoor Mini-Pools will close for the season on Friday, Aug. 18:


Nannie J. Lee Pool, 1108 Jefferson St.
Nicholas Colasanto Pool, 2704 Mount Vernon Ave.
John Ewald Pool, 4500 Duke St.

Between Monday, August 21, and Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 4, the City’s two Large Outdoor Pools will operate on the following schedules:


Old Town Pool, 1609 Cameron St. -- Monday - Friday, 3:30 - 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 7 pm.
Warwick Pool, 3301 Landover St. -- Monday - Friday, 3:30 - 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm. Admission fees to the Old Town and Warwick Pools are $1 for children 7 - 17 and seniors 60 & older, and $2 for adults 18 - 59. Both pools will close for the season on Labor Day.

City residents of all ages are reminded that Alexandria’s renowned
Dr. Robert S. Rixse Memorial Indoor Pool is open year-round. Located at the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center at 3210 King St., the Rixse Pool is open Monday through Thursday, 6 am to 9:45 pm; Friday, 6 am to 7:45 pm; and weekends, 8 am to 6:45 pm. Admission for City residents is $3 for youth and seniors 60 & older; $5 for ages 16 & older; and $8 for all nonresidents. NOTE: The Rixse Pool will close temporarily for maintenance on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4, at 3 pm and reopen Tuesday, Sept. 12, at 6 am.
