Alexandria Police Identify Two Suspects in Double Shooting;
Both Arrested and in Custody

Alexandria police have arrested two suspects in connection with this weekend’s double shooting in Del Ray. Detectives arrested a 14-year-old male and his older brother, a 16-year-old male, both Fairfax County residents, and charged them with Malicious Wounding. Police first arrested the 14-year-old male shortly after the shooting occurred and this evening, the 16-year-old suspect surrendered to detectives. Both teenagers are being held in the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center awaiting trial.

At 3:44 p.m., on Saturday, July 29, police responded to the 1300 block of Mount Vernon Avenue for a weapons violation. Officers found two victims, an 18-year-old Alexandria man and a 19-year old Maryland man, who had been shot. They were taken to Washington Hospital Center where they remain in serious condition.

Initial investigation indicates that the suspect and the victims, who knew one another, got into an altercation that escalated into a shooting. A motive for the fight remains under investigation.
