Business and Homeowners’ Associations Pitch In With City of Alexandria
To Clean Up Cameron Run Following Recent Flooding
Volunteers Needed for July 29 Cameron Run Clean Up Along Eisenhower Avenue

Members of Alexandria’s Eisenhower Partnership and homeowners at The Townes at Cameron Parke will join forces next Saturday, July 29, with the City’s Department of Transportation and Environmental Services for a community cleanup effort at Cameron Run along Eisenhower Avenue. The cleanup is in response to recent flooding that caused massive amounts of litter and debris to wash into local streams.

Department Director Richard Baier issued a call for additional volunteers to assist in the cleanup effort, which will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 am. “Thousands of Alexandria residents and neighbors use our City’s parks and streams every day,” said Baier. “This is an opportunity for those who love Alexandria’s outdoor spaces to do something to restore Cameron Run so other children and adults can continue to enjoy it.”

Volunteers should come to the intersection of Cameron Park Court (the entrance to the Townes at Cameron Parke) and Eisenhower Avenue at any time during the cleanup period to sign in and receive supplies.

Trash bags will be provided. Volunteers should bring gloves and wear shoes and clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty or wet. Rubber boots and long pants are recommended.

In the event of heavy rain, the cleanup will be postponed one day, to Sunday, July 30, at the same time and place.

For additional information and to RSVP, call Diana Handy of the Department of Transportation and Environmental Services at 703.519.3400, extension 166; or e-mail diana.handy@alexandriava.gov.
