CITY OF ALEXANDRIA INSTALLS MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL Mayor Euille Begins Second Term; Macdonald Chosen as Vice Mayor Mayor William D. Euille and Alexandria’s six City Council members were sworn in to serve three-year terms in ceremonies during a special meeting held Wednesday evening at Pendleton Hall on the campus of Episcopal High School. Councilman Andrew H. Macdonald was chosen by unanimously by his colleagues to serve as Vice Mayor. Macdonald received the highest number of votes in the May 2 City Council election, in which he was re-elected to his second term. Also sworn in as City Council members were incumbents Ludwig P. Gaines, Rob Krupicka, Redella S. “Del” Pepper, Paul C. Smedberg and new member Timothy B. Lovain. “Alexandria’s best days are ahead of us,” said Mayor Euille. “Our work is not yet done. We have a lot of work ahead of us to provide affordable housing, reduce the City’s reliance on property taxes, and improve the quality of life for all our citizens.” Mayor Euille also stressed his commitment to expanding the City’s vital business community and working in close collaboration with the Alexandria School Board. Clerk of the Circuit Court Edward Semonian administered the oath of office to Mayor Euille and the new City Council. The program, which also included a performance by the Alexandria City Employees Choir and brief farewell remarks by retiring Councilwoman Joyce Woodson, was followed by a community reception. “I love being Mayor and I honestly believe I’ve made a difference,” said Mayor Euille, who also said he was the City’s “Number-One Cheerleader.” ### |
