City of Alexandria’s Finance Department Begins New Saturday Operating Schedule

Effective July 2006, the City of Alexandria’s Finance Department will begin a new weekend operating schedule. The office will be open on the second Saturday of each month, excluding holiday weekends, from 9 am to noon. Weekday hours will remain 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Previously, the City had been open on most Saturdays, but due to low usage, increased use of the Internet to conduct Finance Department business with the City, and the need to implement budget efficiencies, Saturday hours have been reduced to one Saturday per month.

Persons who wish to make personal property and real estate tax payments can access the payment drop box that is located on the Royal Street side of City Hall, which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The following are other convenient ways for paying the personal property and real estate taxes:

! Pay by mail

! Pay by eCheck online at www.alexandriava.gov

! Pay with a Discover card in person at the Treasury Division or by calling 703.838.4777

! Pay with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover credit card 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling 1.800.272.9829 or online at www.alexandriava.gov.

! Pay by automatic bank debit (real estate tax)

Vehicle registration for personal property taxation can also be completed online.

The City reminds residents that payment of the first half of the 2006 real estate tax and refuse fee is due today, June 15.
