Alexandria Sponsors Heart to Heart Successful Aging Expo 2006 Event Offers Answers to Questions Facing Seniors and Caregivers The Alexandria Commission on Aging and Alexandria Department of Human Services’ Office of Aging and Adult Services and the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities are sponsoring the Heart to Heart Successful Aging Expo 2006 for families, professionals, and others who support senior citizens. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 28, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at the First Baptist Church of Alexandria, 2932 King St. Seating is limited and registration is required. The cost is $15 per person. The expo will serve as a one-stop shop of organizations and service providers who will answer questions about finances, health care, volunteering, employment, recreation, and retirement living. Exhibitors that will take part in the event include the AARP of Virginia, Guide to Retirement Living magazine, Pro-Aging Senior Network, Goodwin House, and Sunrise Senior Living. Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille will serve as master of ceremonies. Vice Mayor Del Pepper will recognize two citizens and one organization for their contributions to Alexandria’s senior community. Dr. Bill Thomas, an international authority on geriatrics and the founder of the Eden Alternative, Eden at Home, and The Green House, and author of “What Are Old People For?” will serve as the event’s keynote speaker.
