City of Alexandria Collects 650 Tons of Material
During the Annual Spring Cleanup
Offers Various Programs to Help Keep Alexandria Clean and Green

During this year’s annual Spring Cleanup, the City of Alexandria collected and disposed of nearly 500 tons of trash, debris, rocks, and bricks. The City recovered another 150 tons of white goods for recycling and brought the total collected to almost 650 tons of material, or more than 75 pounds per single-family household.

Other collection activities included residents enjoying a beautiful spring day as they participated in Alexandria’s Earth Day events and picked up hundreds of cans, bottles, and fast food wrappers; and City crews recycled over 1,500 campaign signs following the City Council and School Board elections.

The City offers various collection programs, such as Adopt-a-block, Household Hazardous Waste, Recycling, and Waste Prevention, that help keep Alexandria clean and green.

For more information on the programs or to participate, call the City’s Solid Waste Division at 703.519.3486.
