City of Alexandria Announces Schedule of Services
For Monday, May 29, in Observance of Memorial Day


City government offices will be closed on Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day.

The Treasury and Revenue Divisions of the Finance Department, which regularly open on Saturday mornings for payment of property taxes and parking tickets, will be closed on Saturday, May 27, and Monday, May 29.

The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces, as well as time restrictions in residential permit parking districts and other areas with signed parking time limits, on May 29. HOV restrictions on Washington St. and Route 1 will be lifted on May 29.

City Schools will be closed on Monday, May 29.

DASH bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule on May 29.

City recreation centers will be closed on May 29 except for the Chinquapin Recreation Center, which will open from 6 am to 6 pm.

City libraries will be closed on May 29.

Residential trash and recycling will not be collected on May 29. All collection services will be delayed by one day the week of May 29.

State offices in Alexandria, including the Circuit, General District, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District courts, the Clerk of Court Office and the Alexandria Health Department, will be closed on May 29.

The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is sponsoring the City’s Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival on Monday, May 29, from 1 to 7 pm at Fort Ward Park, 4301 W. Braddock Road. Admission is free. Tom Grooms of WJZW “Smooth Jazz” 105.9 FM will serve as this year’s master of ceremonies. The festival will feature music from Juanita Williams, Kevin “Stixx” Marshall, Al Williams, Keith Kilgo, and the James Bazen Big Band. In case of inclement weather, the festival will be relocated to the Lee Center's Kauffman Auditorium, 1108 Jefferson St. For more information, call the City’s Events Hotline at 703.883.4686 or the Special Events Office at 703.838.4844.

The Alexandria Office on Women emergency hotlines will be fully staffed and operational on Monday, May 29. The domestic violence hotline, 703.838.4911, and sexual assault hotline, 703.683.7273, as with all Office on Women hotlines, operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
